In an advertisement in the South Australia Register on Wednesday 23 October 1867[1], a letter was published:
"To S. Orby Carey, Esq., M.D., Surgeon on board the ship City of Adelaide, October 12, 1867. Dear Sir— We the undersigned passengers in the ship City of Adelaide feel much pleasure in expressing how highly we regard the professional abilities and general character evinced by you during the passage. Your unremitting attention in Mrs. Opdahl's extraordinary and intricate case won our admiration, and satisfied us that you will do your utmost in the hour of need. "With best wishes for your success and future happiness, We are, yours sincerely, F. A. Edelsten, John Fidge, R. T. Foale, T. S. Lang, Samuel C. Pearson, G. M. Perry, E. S. Perry, George Prince, H. A. Prince, H. G. Prince, W. Sandover, M. B. Sandover, John Brewster, G. G. Todd, Harriett Tuck, J. F. Wells, A. E. Lowry, Robert Brewster, John Bruce (master), Ed. Robins (chief mate), E.
