Mr F. A. Edelsten is named in South Australian newspaper arrival lists as a First Class (Saloon) passenger who sailed from London to Adelaide in 1867 on board the City of Adelaide.

Frederick Alexander Edelsten was born in Birmingham, England in 1848 and was aged 19 when he sailed to Adelaide. He kept a diary of the voyage. In 1871 Frederick purchased property in Howard Springs, NT which remained in his family for over 100 years (Edelsten Road runs to the property and is named after him).

Frederick had returned to England by 1876 where he married Maria Morgan on 5 October 1876 at Waltham Cross. In 1907 Frederick and his two sons were in partnership as "Australian and General Commission Merchants, at Dashwood House, No. 9, New Broad-street, in the city of London, under the style of F. A. EDELSTEN AND CO."

Frederick died at The Elms, Forty-hill, Enfield, England on 17 December 1915 aged 67.

Note: Numerous spelling variations of Frederick's surname occur in records associated with the voyage but "Edelsten" is used consistently in birth, marriage, death and other official records.
