Template:Update/doc

This template can be used to mark articles or sections with old or out-of-date information.

To add the date when the tag was added, use:

{{Update|date=November 2024}}

To specify what parts of the article need updating, use the first unnamed parameter:

{{Update|Foo [[bar]] qux}}

To display the date of the last update, use the second unnamed parameter:

{{Update||22 October 2024}}

To mark a section, use:

{{Update|section}}

To explain that the article now has inaccuracies, use |inaccurate=yes:

{{Update|inaccurate=yes}}

The template detects which namespace it is used in and changes accordingly:

{{Update|section}} produces:

Article	{{ safesubst:#invoke:Unsubst	date=__DATE__ \|$B= {{#invoke:Message box\|ambox}} }}
Category	{{ safesubst:#invoke:Unsubst	date=__DATE__ \|$B= {{#invoke:Message box\|mbox}} }}
Template	{{ safesubst:#invoke:Unsubst	date=__DATE__ \|$B= {{#invoke:Message box\|mbox}} }}

For factual inaccuracies, stronger wording is used and articles will be added to Category:Articles with obsolete information.

{{Update|inaccurate=yes}} {{ safesubst:#invoke:Unsubst||$N=Update |date=__DATE__ |$B= {{#invoke:Message box|ambox}} }}

{{Update after}} is an alternative for individual statements that will be out-of-date at a specifiable future date. It is a more recent and preferred alternative to Wikipedia:As of. It also adds articles to Category:Wikipedia articles in need of updating.
