Having reached Port Adelaide on 26 July 1881, the City of Adelaide unloaded and eventually sailed for Port Augusta, arriving there on 21 August. Loading her "homeward" cargo, she sailed from Port Augusta on 29 October 1881 and arrived in London on 16 February 1882, a duration of 110 days.
