| Voyage to Adelaide in 1865 | |
| Personal role | First Class Passenger |
| Name on list | Miss Oldham |
| Joined place | London |
| Left place | Adelaide |
The 1865 passenger list for the voyage of the City of Adelaide from London to Adelaide, contained the name of a Miss Oldham. She occupied a first class saloon, and from the records available relating to the voyage, appears to have been travelling alone. These records give little to positively identify this young woman. She is, however, mentioned in some of the poetry written by other passengers as part of the on-board entertainment which included the instigation by Captain Bruce of a poetry appreciation group. All passengers were invited to take part, but not all did. Of those who did, their poetry survives in the form of a small printed book, published in Adelaide in 1865 shortly after their arrival, by passenger Alfred Hawker. Miss Oldham is mentioned in a poem written by the eight year old Emily Barber, and in which Miss Oldham and Miss Foale, another passenger, appear to be linked as friends.
In trying to identify the first class passenger on the 1865 voyage, Miss Oldham, the best candidate found is Christina Oldham. It seems that she may have been travelling out to South Australia to be married, which occurred only a few months after her arrival when she married Thomas Fulton Oldham in 1866. The fact that she married a person with the same surname as hers, suggests that she may have been a cousin of her husband but this has not been ascertained.
There were goods in the ship's hold on this voyage that were consigned to one Nathaniel Oldham, who was very likely to be the brother of her future husband.

In 1859, the Reverend Oldham - father of Thomas Fulton Oldham - took over the management of the Kapunda mine from his retiring friend of many years, Captain Charles Harvey Bagot. Such was the friendship between these two men, that the Rev. Oldham named at least two of his children after the good Captain. The Advertiser of Friday 18 November 1859 carries on page 1 in the Public Notices column, letters of farewell to Captain Bagot, his replies to the people of Kapunda, and letters of welcome to the Reverend Oldham as mine manager.

Her mother died in Ireland in 1895, perhaps she went back there for a visit or perhaps she was too ill to remain in Australia and went home to Ireland so her mother could nurse her.
